Sequart is proud to announce that it will publish Meet the Magus: Magic in the Work of Alan Moore, authored by Dr. Hannah Means-Shannon.
Meet the Magus: Magic in the Work of Alan Moore explores the magical belief systems that inform the comics written by Moore, from his early career to present day, and illuminates the ways in which a knowledge of these concepts can alter and expand our appreciation of these works and their interrelated nature. Even before Moore declared himself to be a “magician” while working on From Hell, his interest in esoteric tradition influenced his writing, forming a gradual groundswell until his major magically-themed series Promethea. Following Promethea, and expanding from it, we continue to see the implications of a magical view of the universe in Moore’s projects, as well as his development as a public figure in society. Meet the Magus acts as a tour guide through Moore’s work from a magical perspective, enabling the reader to learn the basic codas that form the essential framework behind the scenes of some of the most influential comics of the 20th and 21st century.
Dr. Hannah Means-Shannon is a comics scholar and the Editor-in-Chief of BleedingCool.com. You can read some of her writing on Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman here.
