As part of Sequart’s roll-out into digital distribution, two of its books are now available digitally: Timothy Callahan’s Grant Morrison: The Early Years and Julian Darius’s Improving the Foundations: Batman Begins from Comics to Screen.
Both books can be found through iTunes and through iBooks, Apple’s digital book distribution platforms. This mean that they can be read on the iPad device. They are each priced at $9.99.
Grant Morrison: The Early Years examines Zenith, Arkham Asylum, Animal Man, Batman: Gothic, and Doom Patrol in detail, drawing out their running and evolving themes. Using plain language, Callahan opens up Morrison’s sometimes difficult texts and expands the reader’s appreciation of their significance, creating a study accessible to both Grant Morrison aficionados and those new to his work. An exclusive interview with Morrison on his early career rounds out the volume.
Improving the Foundations: Batman Begins from Comics to Screen studies the film and its comic-book appropriation in detail. Julian Darius examines the evolution of Batman’s origins as well as previous attempts to film that story. Contains scene-by-scene analysis of the film, including changes from the script, opening up its themes through crisp, insightful language. Also explores the film’s realism in contrast to past Batman films, its reception, its box office, and recommendations for further reading.
