Artist Paul Smith came aboard near the end of the long-running Brood storyline. As this storyline was coming to its conclusion, Marvel launched a second ongoing X-Men title: New Mutants, also written by Chris Claremont. Later in 1983, Claremont also wrote a Wolverine mini-series — the first of many solo titles for the character.
