DC’s Legends of Tomorrow:

News and First Look

The Arrow and The Flash spin-off Legends of Tomorrow is set to debut during the CW’s 2015-2016 season (most likely in early 2015). The show will star Doctor Who‘s Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, multiple Emmy award nominee Victor Graber as Dr. Martin Stein, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/Canary, former Superman Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer, Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave, Edge of Tomorrow star Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, David Ramsey as John Diggle, and Ciara Renee as Hawkgirl. Caity Lotz and David Ramsey arrive from their work on Arrow, as Ciara Renee moves over from The Flash, and Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell advance from their work on Prison Break. Most recently DC has confirmed (via comicbook.com) that the villainous character, Vandal Savage (first appeared Green Lantern #10, Dec. 1944) will possibly act as the show’s main antagonist, although the part has yet to be cast.

Vandal Savage is described as a caveman named Vandar Adg that originally lived as the leader of the Cro-Magnon Blood Tribe during 50,000 BC. While inspecting a fallen meteorite, Vandal Savage became drenched in radiation, which gave him the power of an elevated intellect and immortality. Later, a man from the Bear Tribe would approach the same crater, and receive the same powers as Savage. This man became known as the Immortal Man and Savage’s mortal enemy.

Legends of Tomorrow is not based off a comic book series itself, but created around these DC comic book characters with plots strictly for this show. Here is DC’s official synopsis of the show (via blastr.com):

When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?
