Diego Luna to Star in Star Wars: Rogue One

Star Wars: Rogue One is one of the three confirmed Star Wars spin-off films to be made and released in the coming years. Rogue One is to be directed by Gareth Edwards, best known for his work with Godzilla (2014).  The plot, as confirmed by the official Star Wars twitter account, is “A band of resistance fighters uniting for a daring mission steal the Death Star plans.”

That makes this writer very excited. The Star Wars universe is so massively expansive that maneuvering through all the little storyline cracks and crevasses, all the possibilities, is not only a great way for Disney to make the franchise more prolific, but to keep fans happy with quality content.

Earlier this year it was confirmed that The Theory of Everything‘s Felicity Jones will be the starring female role in Rogue One, as a Rebel soldier alongside Nightcrawler’s Riz Ahmed. And now Diego Luna will enter the group as the protagonist, a Rebel soldier, reports Variety.com.

It is suspected that this film will answer the question of how the Death Star plans got into Princess Leia’s hands to begin with, and while we know that she does in fact end up with the plans, that shouldn’t ruin the story. Riz Ahmed is the wildcard right now, but this writer hopes to see him take a much more serious role in Rogue One.

Rogue One will hit theaters on December 16, 2016 says Comicbook.com, which means the best news is yet to come. So, here’s a nice little trailer leak via traileraddicts.com.
