The Lady Death Shuffle

Lady Death is getting ready to settle into yet another home when Avatar begins publishing the title later this year. Avatar will be the third publisher for the character, created by Brian Pulido. After Pulido’s own Chaos! Comics went bankrupt, CrossGen offered a life raft for the character while the rest of Chaos! was sinking. Suffice it to say that the relationship didn’t last. Now Pulido is bringing the character to Avatar Press and bringing the style of this new series back to the darker, edgier tone that Lady Death once had at Chaos!.

This is not the beginning of Pulido’s relationship with Avatar, however, as Pulido has recently launched other characters with the publisher. Avatar, now home to corporate licenses and known for creators such as Warren Ellis and Alan Moore, was once known mostly for its violent and sexual content — a trend that still persists today. Pulido’s work seems to fit in better at Avatar than at CrossGen anyway.

So is the character finally be ready to settle down with a publisher, or is she forever cursed? Let’s hope the next few years don’t see Avatar claiming bankruptcy as did Lady Death’s two previous publishers.
