- in flashback, a dying Abin Sur’s ring summons Superman before finding Hal Jordan (the experience is wiped from Superman’s mind)
- Green Lantern Hal Jordan is shot on a military compound and left for dead, whereupon his ring seeks out a successor
- Hal’s ring seeks out Nightwing, Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Deadman, Clark Kent, and others, who are brought to Hal Jordan’s body
- Abin Sur’s spirit, Clark Kent, and Deadman convince Hal not to give up, and Hal’s spirit rejoins his body, coming alive again
- the successors are returned, but each finds themselves with a small amount of Green Lantern energy, which solves the problems they were facing at the moment of their summoning
