More to come.
The Final Future Story
“The Void!”
- written by Simon Furman; art by Staz
- set on New Year’s Day in 2009 (although this should have been 2010, given that “Legacy of Unicron!” began on 1 Jan 2008 and “Time Wars” also began on 1 Jan 2009, with the future stories generally set 20 years after the present date)
- Rodimus Prime leads a group of Autobots to Earth but there’s a traitor on board
“Skin Deep, Part 3″
- reprints the final third of Transformers Vol. 1 #59
“Edge of Impact”
- written by Simon Furman; art by Staz
- continues from “The Void!” (Transformers U.K. Vol. 1 #251)
- searching for the saboteur, Kup finds Longtooth standing over Rodimus Prime’s unconscious body, but Arcee reveals that Longtooth couldn’t have been the saboteur
- in the end, the saboteur is revealed to be Rodimus Prime himself, possessed by dark forces (in fact, by Unicron, who’s trapped inside the Matrix, although that’s not mentioned here)
“Yesterday’s Heroes!, Part 1″
- reprints the first third of Transformers Vol. 1 #60
“Shadow of Evil”
- written by Simon Furman; art by Cam Smith
- continues from “Edge of Impact” (Transformers U.K. Vol. 1 #252)
- the possessed Rodimus Prime rampages, but pauses as the real Rodimus Prime struggles, prompting Arcee to convince Kup that they need to shoot to kill
“Yesterday’s Heroes!, Part 2″
- reprints the second third of Transformers Vol. 1 #60
“White Fire”
- written by Simon Furman; art by Cam Smith
- continues from “Shadow of Evil” (Transformers U.K. Vol. 1 #253)
- as the Autobots prepare to gun Rodimus Prime down, they notice he’s fighting back and subdue him instead
- as Rodimus Prime prepares to cleanse the Matrix and purge it of Unicron, Kup tears the Matrix from Rodimus Prime’s chest, restoring him to normal but also costing them the chance to destroy Unicron forever
- this is the final appearance of the future-based characters in the series, although “Aspects of Evil!” revealed that Unicron would return later in 2010, possessing Rodimus Prime again, reforming his body, and demolishing much of Cybertron (that same story revealed that Rodimus Prime in 2356 was still battling Unicron’s infection of the Matrix)
- although this future-based storyline was never resolved, the idea of a corrupted Matrix was key to “Deathbringer” (Transformers U.K. Vol. 1 #235-236) and the upcoming “Matrix Quest” storyline, both set in the present day
“Yesterday’s Heroes!, Part 3″
- reprints the final third of Transformers Vol. 1 #60
Matrix Quest
“Bird of Prey!”
- written by Simon Furman; art by Geoff Senior
- Nightbeat, Siren, and Hosehead have an adventure while searching space for the Matrix (now said to have been rather carelessly lost when Optimus Prime’s body was shot into space in Transformers Vol. 1 #26)
- in the end, Thunderwing and other Decepticons capture the Autobots and are intent to find out why they’re searching this portion of the galaxy
