Sequart’s Image Documentary Inspires Creator to Pitch Comic to Image (and It was Accepted!)

This is an unorthodox post, but I feel that it’s totally worth sharing, for no other reason than it makes us at Sequart feel good. Below is an email I received from comics creator Otis Frampton, and as you’ll see below, he credits our The Image Revolution documentary with inspiring him to pitch his new comic book, Oddly Normal, to Image Comics. And it worked! How could it not make a person massively proud to have something like this land in their inbox? Here are the relevant portions of the letter:

Hi! I’m a comic book writer / artist and I have a new series coming out from Image Comics this fall called Oddly Normal. It’s an all ages fantasy adventure… it’s The Wizard of Oz meets Harry Potter. You can read about it HERE.

In a way, I might not even be published by Image without your wonderful The Image Revolution documentary. The day after I watched it in January I decided to take a chance and send out a pitch to Image Comics, a publisher I never would have pitched to before since they don’t really do all ages comics. Watching the documentary reminded me of how Image Comics renewed my interest in comics back in 1992 and made me want to make them professionally. It lit a fire under me and I sent out a pitch to them the very next day.

As you can imagine, I was beaming when I first read it. You don’t get emails like that every day! And the fact that he got the green light from Image is just so gratifying. Oddly Normal #1 is in the current issue of Diamond’s Previews (Diamond code JUL140443). Check it out! (And of course a special shout-out goes to Respect Films for creating such an inspiring documentary!)
