Flash and Green Lantern Films Get Directors

Flash and Green Lantern movies have been given directors and new directions in the wake of the upcoming Justice League film.

While work continues on Justice League, set to spin off a number of DC characters into franchises of their own, it seems that Warner Bros. has begun work on some of those spin-offs, including Flash and Green Lantern.

David Dobkin, known for directing such comedic films as Fred Claus, has been signed to direct the Scarlet Speedster. Shawn Levy, director of Night at the Museum, has apparently left the project. As has David S. Goyer, director of Blade Trinity and co-screenwriter on Batman Begins.

The Flash film will apparently star Wally West as the Flash and will take place in the same universe as the upcoming Justice League film. This supports some rumors that Justice League will open with the death of Barry Allen.

Meanwhile, Greg Berlanti, who directed 2000′s The Broken Hearts Club, has apparently been signed to direct a Green Lantern feature. He will co-write the script with Marc Guggenheim, currently a popular writer of Marvel comics like Wolverine, and Michael Green of Heroes.

Hal Jordan will be the Green Lantern depicted in the film. Berlanti originally pitched the film as the first of a trilogy, with the first film showing the character’s origin and how he joined the Green Lantern Corps.

Belanti was quoted in The Hollywood Reporter, praising the character:

To me, this was on the last great comic book movie that hasn’t been made. It was a comic book with a real mythology that you would see in a lot of the space operas and the sci-fi books. The best part about it, anybody can be become one of the Green Lanterns because anyone can end up with that ring.

Meanwhile, it seems that the Wonder Woman film has been put on hiatus, with no one cast in the title role — despite persistent rumors to the contrary.
